THE Best Banana Bread

I personally think I make some of the best banana bread around- as a dietitian, I love the addition of whole wheat flour, and this recipe contains less sugar than typical dessert-like banana breads. This bread tastes buttery (without butter, actually), and it’s perfectly studded with dark chocolate chips- my fav! While I love having this as a simple breakfast paired with cottage cheese, it truly doesn’t last long; our family of 5 devours it within about 24 hours. Yum!

I make this recipe nearly every week- I welcome those sad-looking bananas because I'd rather have a slice of warm chocolate chip banana bread vs. a plain old banana any day, and yes, I am a dietitian!

Ingredients

The Best Banana Bread
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup avocado oil
  • 2-3 overripe bananas
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (or measure with your heart)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Drizzle a small amount of oil in a loaf pan to prevent sticking.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the dry ingredients - flours, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the wet ingredients until well combined. Add the dry ingredients to the wet. Stir in chocolate chips. Mix until combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the loaf pan. Bake for 45-55 minutes. Let the loaf cool on a rack for about 5 minutes before turning the bread out of the pan.
  5. Enjoy!
